21 Jump Street is a comedy crime film, so it fits in perfectly with the genre I've selected which is crime comedy.

The sound used in the in start which is by Eminem is non-diegetic sound as we cannot see the where the sound is coming from in the scene , the song is a very upbeat song which set's the mood of the film to be happy and gives us the impression it's a jolly film. The sound soon digresses into diegetic sound of busy corridors and students talking. We are then shown a wide angle medium shot so us as the audience can fully analyse this character, it soon moves on to an over the shoulder shot following Schmidt into the school.
The opening credits don't come before the film starts. It changes from the film opening to credits and flashes with police sirens, so the audience already know from this point that the film is orientated around the police force and crime. They finally show the name of the film, '21 Jump Street' in this flashing slides. I really like the way they have done this as if you were to watch the film and had never have heard of it before, the audience immediately knows that it revolves around crime and the police.
The mise en scene is like the normal school environment, lockers, groups of kids talking, school bells etc. Schmidt's clothing is a plain white t-shirt with jeans which is very bland. This could link into the fact that as his confidence is very, he doesn't want to express himself through his clothing and wear anything which is really out there. On the other hand Jenko, who is seen to be very confident (perhaps too much so) has a Sports jacket, which is often stereotyped to be worn by someone popular in American television. So the audience learns straight away that the two main characters are very different people.
The character we first see get off the school bus and walk through the school gives off the impression that he's very confident by the way he sway’s his shoulders, then as soon as the music fades away and he approaches a girl, the audience discover he's a very nervous person and we can see that by the way he's looking to the floor whilst speaking and stuttering in his speech. Schmidt (the blond character) is then approached by Jenko (the long haired character) laughing at him after being rejected. So from that small clip we can see out of the two main characters. The picture below shows this character just turn around from a girl that he likes,(the one in the pink approaching him). From his facial expressions and the fact that he is hanging his head down low, we can tell he is feeling very nervous and anxious.
The first camera shot we see is quite a high angle shot, showing all the students come off the school bus, it then moves down towards a mid shot showing one of the main characters, Schmidt. The camera then follows him into the school with what could be seen to be an establishing shot, showing the audience the entrance to the school. After Schmidt approaches another character to engage in conversation, 180 degree rule is used as well as shot reverse shot.
